Exterior Track-guided Roller Shades

Exterior Track-guided Roller Shades are sunshading devices installed above the window openings on the exterior of buildings, and can be either motorized or manual. Their core structure is similar to that of ordinary indoor roller blinds, consisting of a roller tube, a drive system (tubular motor), slats, and a bottom rail.

1.When Exterior Track-guided Roller Shades needs to be closed, the motor drives the roller to rotate, releasing the slats downward.
2. The edges on both sides of the slats are embedded in vertical aluminum or stainless steel guides. These guides limit the lateral movement of the slats, ensuring they can only move up and down precisely in the vertical direction.
3. When the slats reach the bottom, the bottom beam fits tightly against the ground or windowsill, forming a completely enclosed plane.
4. In this way, it not only blocks sunlight from above, but also effectively prevents rain, strong wind, dust, and outside view through the windproof side tracks and the sealed bottom beam, providing all-around protection.
In simple terms, it is a “blinds installed outside the window with tracks,” but its functionality and performance far exceed indoor blinds.

Size Width/Height Custom-made according to the net dimensions of the window opening. The width usually does not exceed 3 meters (if it does, it needs to be joined), and the height can reach over 6 meters.
Track Height/Extent of Reach The distance the guide rail extends from the wall is usually 5cm-15cm. The more it extends, the better the side wind protection and sealing, but it also takes up more space.
Material Blind material Core performance components determine insulation, light transmission, and protective properties.
• PVC coated fabric: economical and practical, good waterproofing, but moderate insulation and environmental friendliness.
• Glass fiber base fabric with PVC coating: mainstream choice, high strength, flame retardant, waterproof, and durable.
• Polyester fiber with foam coating: best insulation performance (U-value), effectively blocks heat transfer.
• Aluminum blinds: ultimate protection, 100% light-blocking, fully private, fireproof, but cannot be folded into thin sheets.
Track/Housing material Usually made of high-strength aluminum alloy or 304 stainless steel, with a surface treated by anodizing or coating to prevent corrosion, rust, and weathering.
Beam material Made of aluminum alloy or high-strength engineering plastic, the interior can be filled with soundproof cotton to enhance sealing and noise reduction.
Performance Wind pressure resistance rating Key indicator, representing the maximum wind speed that can be withstood (unit: Pa or km/h). For household use, it is usually 80-120 km/h, while reinforced models can reach over 160 km/h, sufficient to withstand typhoon conditions.
Waterproof rating It indicates its ability to prevent rainwater penetration, usually related to the design of the guide rails and the overlapping process of the slats. High-quality products can reach IPX4 or higher.
Shading rate The shading rate can reach 90%-100%. The lower the U-value, the better the insulation performance, which can significantly reduce air conditioning energy consumption in summer and indoor heat loss in winter.
Open/close method Electric: Tubular motor with remote control/switch/smart home integration. Manual: Beaded cord or crank handle (with clutch)
Drive Motor power/torque Choose based on the area and weight of the slats to ensure there is enough strength to operate stably in wind and rain.
Control Remote/ wall swtich/ mobile APP/ smart home system/ wind sensor

Product Feature and Application

1.Better wind resistance than trackless roller blinds
The guide rail constrains the curtain surface, making it less likely to be blown or flapped by strong winds, reducing the risk of damage.

2.Better sealing
The curtain fabric runs along the guide rail, fitting more closely to the structure at the top, bottom, and sides, which can to some extent block rain, dust, and insects from entering.

3.Wide range of applications
The straight rail version is suitable for regular openings, while the curved-arm guide rail version can adapt to complex shapes such as arches, sloped roofs, and polygons.

4.Versatile functions
Depending on the type of curtain fabric, it can provide sunshade and heat insulation, waterproofing and moisture
resistance, thermal insulation and energy saving, soundproofing and noise reduction, and theft prevention and concealment.

5.Neat appearance and long-lasting durability
Guide rails can be painted or anodized, with colors coordinated with the building; metal materials are corrosion-resistant and have a longer service life.

Application

1.High-end Residences and Villas
2.Commercial and Office Buildings
3.Hotels
4.Hospitals/Schools
5.Sunrooms/Greenhouses
6.Studios/Recording Rooms
7.Museums/ Galleries
8.Coastal and Windy Areas
